Rice bran oil is an ideal oil for margarine and shortening. Its flavor provides good palatability, while the desired prime form crystal offers smooth plasticity and spreading qualities. Since rice bran oil contains three different kinds of natural antioxidants — namely Tocopherol, Tocotrienol, and Oryzanol — some major antioxidant companies have recently switched their base oil to rice bran oil. This shift shows that industry leaders recognize rice bran oil’s oxidative stability.

In the animal feed industry, crude rice bran oil is a better source of energy when compared to animal fats because it is high in metabolizable energy. It contains essential fatty acids for animals and helps reduce the heat of digestion. Research studies have concluded that the inclusion of crude rice bran oil up to 3 percent in broiler ration is recommended for better growth and higher return over feed cost. Crude rice bran oil also helps reduce dust in feed, making it more palatable to animals; moreover, it acts as a lubricant in the animal feed pelletization stage.

Crude rice bran oil also has high Vitamin E and Oryzanol, which are natural antioxidants that prevent oil rancidity. Thus, the nutrient values in feed, when mixed with crude rice bran oil, are well preserved. Oryzanol also helps enhance the animal immune system and more. The De-Oiled Rice Bran (DORB) is divided into three grades depending on the quality of the raw material, namely Grade 1 (Pellet), Grade 2 (Pellet), and Grade 3 (Nice). DORB is widely used in the manufacture of cattle feed, poultry feed, and fish feed. It is also used as fuel for boilers and in the manufacturing of sodium silicate, silica gel, and insulation bricks using fully burnt white ash of husk.
